What do you do when you have a dream or idea that you know God has put on your heart? It's something that you just can't shake. You've tried to push it aside, and you can't get it out of your mind.
...When you know that God has told you to go do something, it won't always make rational sense.
It is typically something God wants you to do: start a business, a new career path, or ministry. But we often struggle between hearing God, and taking the first step to manifesting the idea. It's the drop off between, "I heard it, I believe it, and I know it's from God" and "I don't know what to do next". The first step from dreaming to implementing is believing!
Phase I: God-Given Idea Development
Here's the thing, when you know that God has told you to go do something, it won't always make rational sense. It's often bigger than you can imagine. You may find yourself saying things like, "there is no way I see myself doing that", Or "I don't even know where to start".
In those moments, the enemy gets afraid that you might actually become what God is calling you to be. He'll start whispering suggestions like," are you sure that was God? Don't you need a better education? Doesn't that sound like too risky? Couldn't you lose everything?" And you choose to doubt, you start thinking to yourself, "you know what, I am not good enough. I'm not smart enough. I don't deserve it. Well, maybe that wasn't really God. Maybe it was just me being selfish".
It's okay to be scared, but move forward.
What we tend to do is we either bury the big-idea and continue to live in our comfort zone without any forward motion. Thinking to ourselves, I don't want to move because if I do I might be out of line with God, or I might be taking too much of a risk.
Or we start asking for the approval of friends and family, who will usually confirm our doubts and not fuel our faith. They're really trying to protect you from making big mistakes, but in the end we really never get the validation we're looking for in those circles.
In these scenarios, we get tricked into disbelief instead of propelled into development. Yet, we're here to tell you not to bury the idea for another second.
Phase II: God-Given Belief
Here's the truth: God has a track record of choosing the least of these; the one that no one would expect; the ones that the world would say they can't do it. And He does this so that he gets the glory from believers and nonbelievers who will recognize that you saw success with God's help.
So if God gives you a big-idea, it will make no sense and it will be scary. I encourage you to choose to believe it and receive it.
God promises us in John 7:38, "Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them."
He will then confirm the vision He's given to you in various ways, so you know it's from Him.
It's okay to be scared, but move forward. It's okay to be uncertain of how it will all come out to be, but trust him. God may not give you the full plan, but he will always give you the next step. You've just got to believe!
